After his last champion title in 1983, Ferrari went through a difficult period in the 1990s. Alan Prost leaves the team in 1991, replaced by Jean Alesi as main driver. In 1994, the engineer John Bernard returns and creates the "412T1", updated to "412T1B" for the San Marino Grand Prix in order to comply with new regulations. Ferrari then begins to regain its competitiveness.

In 1995, the "412T2" was born, with a conservative design and a traditional V12 engine. Despite the absence of major innovations, it competes with Williams and Benetton. The highlight of the season is Jean Alesi’s victory at the Grand Prix du Canada, on his birthday. This victory, the only one for Ferrari in 1995, is symbolic: it is the last of a V12 engine and it is achieved with the number "27", in tribute to Gilles Villeneuve, on the circuit bearing his name.
